Maritime - current work + developing proposition

Generic workplace approaches do not always reflect the realities of maritime work. Shore-based teams, seafarers, rotations, offshore environments, safety-critical work, privacy, access to facilities and support, and traditionally male-dominated cultures can all shape women’s experience at work.

Torild brings 30 years of maritime experience to her women’s health and menopause work. Current support can include company-wide awareness, manager training, HR and leadership training, Occupational Health training, organisational readiness conversations and the Women’s Wellbeing Program / The Menopause Plan for employees.

Women in Maritime Readiness - in development

Pause Effect is also developing Women in Maritime Readiness: a broader organisational approach exploring what it means for a maritime organisation to be genuinely ready for women to join, work, progress and remain throughout their careers.

The developing work looks beyond a single health issue. It considers the systems and lived experience around women at work, including policy and governance, physical workplace and vessel infrastructure, training and capability, support networks, employee voice and the wider female career-health journey.

Menopause remains an established specialist entry point. Women in Maritime Readiness extends the question: how do women’s health, life stages, working conditions, career experience and organisational systems intersect - and what does a maritime employer need to understand to support attraction, progression and retention in practice?
